How to Choose a Turntable

Even after the advent of cassette tapes, CDs and now digital music, vinyl records never really lost their charm. In fact, for audiophiles turntables playing records are much better than any other form of audio player.  Turntables in the modern form have been around for quite some time. They are available at variable rates, along with different features and specifications. To choose the best turntable for yourself, you need to first of all assess your own needs and then be sure of what to look for in a turntable. Here are some of the steps you need to follow:
Decide your budget: Since, turntables are available at different prices as per their specifications it would be a good idea to first of all fix a budget for yourself. It would help you to narrow down your search and hence make it easier.
Belt Drive or Direct Drive: The next point of decision for you should be whether you want a belt drive or direct drive turntable. The motor, which rotates the platter (the part on which the record rests) may be either directly mounted on it or may be situated on a side. The ones which are directly mounted are the direct drive turntables and they allow the platter to be rotated backwards by bare hands without actually causing any harm to the turntable. This may let interesting sound effects occur, thus making such turntables preferred by the disc jockeys (DJs). Belt drive turntables have a rubber belt that connects the platter along with the motor. This belt absorbs the shocks caused by the motor's vibration, thereby preventing any noise in the electric signal.
Manual or Automatic: Another aspect, based on which the turntables are classified further is the process by which the tone arm is set on the vinyl record. This may be done manually or may take place automatically by the push of a button. In manual turntables the user lifts the tone arm and places it onto the spinning record by hand. In the automatic ones, when the button is pressed, the tone arm rises from its position of rest, gets placed on the record and starts playing the audio
